Recap: When we last saw the Dragonslayers they were careening north along dusty Sootway, they successfully drove off an attacking Brown dragon (who only made off with one of their horses) and arrived in Port Flume, dusty, tired and awestruck by the massive size of the town. For the remainder of they day, they got their bearings while unloading their caravan, shopped at Flotsam, explored the ale and entertainment available at Jetsam, diced with the devil and challenged several combatants for fame and money in the combat pit known as “The Hold”.

Date: Morning, Pelsday, the 5th of Tyden, 617 S.R. The Warehouse, Market District, Port Flume

During the Dragonslayers Remaining 2 Days at Port Flume

  • The mornings and early afternoons are spent unloading the coal carts and beginning to load all the goods purchased for the return trip to Blackfield.
  • Pendrynn fought Attenboro in The Hold (Combat) and lost after being crushed (and frozen!) to unconsciousness by a giant summoned hand made of ice, as Barack flipped around the perimeter of the pit, entertaining the onlookers with handsprings and tumbling. Pendrynn earns 100 XP for combat in the Hold.
  • Barack spent his time watching for illegal activity in town, ultimately confronting and chasing down a team of cutpurses. Later that night, he found a strange ugly faced coin lying on his bunk and instructions that he should meet with the fortune teller Mme. Dumond. Also he sent back 35 gold back to his toady Toad to fund his band back in Blackfield.
  • Davros consulted a scholars circle and went to the library to research “Helios”. After hiring a Scholar of Expertise, Davros learned of only one instance of that name in a several century old record from the court of Sumacha. Apparently, that Helios was a magician of the court before being exiled to the Astral Plane as punishment for an unidentified crime.
  • Kailithe attempted to gain access to the Great Library of Ioun, failed to convince the brethren that he was truly a follower of Ioun, but was allowed access, if only to better answer in the future.
  • Froimos spent time at Hammersmiths admiring their heavier plate designs, and inquired as to the availability of training with it.
  • Kailithe and Davros commissioned Hammersmiths to forge an enchanted heavy shield integrating the white dragon skin carved from Shyssal. Additionally, it was to be embossed in white dragon scale with a rampant dragon pierced through the heart with a spear. Cost: 300 gold payment due to Hammersmiths upon completion in a month’s time. The party can pick-up the shield at Port Flume, or have it delivered to a major Port Flume trading partner at additional cost.
  • Captain Hurrel of charger cohort berated a member of his cohort for not noticing the wear and tear to the axle of the central puller. A decision was made to leave it behind in Port Flume, rather than risk a potential broken axle on the Sootway. Additional investigation seems to indicate that there isn’t any foul play involved, Peter Kincaid, the individual responsible for the inspection, indicated that it merely slipped his mind.
  • Barack visited the fortune teller known as Madame Dumond in order to find additional details about Port Flume’s underground. Halfway through her coded statements about ”expansion opportunities” she slipped into a strange trance. She became rigid, her eyes glazed over with white and in an unnaturally deep voice continued to repeat a phrase.

  • Her assistant drove Barack out of the tent as she and her roustabouts attempted to wake the unresponsive Madame Dumond.

Travel To Burrowdown

  • Before leaving Barack packed a message into the postage sack, addressed to the leader of his pack in Blackfield. “Keep and Eye on Sellers?” (Spelling?) as well as another lavender scented letter graced with flowing script.
  • Travel along the Burrow Road was a restful, sunny trip.

Burrowdown Gates -The caravan approached the Green Valley Gate, the entrance to the lush valley of the halfling farmers. Twenty foot tall vine covered walls could be seen topped with crenelations seeming to sprouting spiky hairs (actually the tips of the halfling defender’s spears). The massive wooden doors swung open as the caravan approached, revealing the form of a hulking giant nearly triple the height of the supervising halfling sergeant.

  • The party was welcomed with a feast overflowing with delicious food and drink, preparing them for the days of manual labor ahead, preparing and packing the supplies to be returned to Blackfield.
  • They heard the stories about how giant brothers (“Big” and “Bigger”) came to the valley through a portal nearly 18 years ago. After much bribing with food and ale, the giants happily became the workhorses for the farming community.
  • Barack handed off a bottle for Shamus O’Halloran, who wasn’t in down at the time. They indicated they’d store it safely for him until he returned.
  • The group visited the giants in their barn-like structure down by the lake and didn’t get much from it, they’re awfully dimwitted.
  • Group Exploration Experience for exploring Burrowdown – 50XP

Return Trip from Burrowdown

  • Attacked on return by an Undead Bulette, Automated Hammerers and Launchers and Sarpodon and Myrmidon, champions of the Marsh Wizard.

  • As the “Metal Man” Leader succumbs to Davros’ elemental blasts, he yells before dying..

  • When the “Hammerer Launchers” are finally beaten down, they echoed in a similar metallic voice “Abort, Abort, Warn the Marsh Wizard, Abort..” before their head’s ejected, and hurtled in the direction of the drifting fog of the Mist Fens.
  • Experience for surviving the ambush at Korba Pass - 500 XP (50% XP for those players not present)
  • If they investigate the bodies the group found Golden “Rider Box” like device in their heads, the inevitable arcane tests show that they don’t contain a normal soul, (Darkness and pain) and work differently than the typical rider boxes.
  • Several members of Charger cohort died in the battle. The party was able to recover most of the cargo and limp back to town with single remaining puller slowly dragging the remains of the caravan.
  • As soon as the Dragonslayers returned, they were brought before the full Elder Council, where they explained the events that occurred on the round trip journey.
  • The cohort is commended on their bravery and promoted to the secret rank of ”Hunters of Blackfield”. They’re a secretive, special forces of the Blackfield Militia, it’s a considerable honor.
  • Party Quest reward for Promotion to the Hunters of Blackfield – 150 XP
  • The Dragonslayers are given a scroll case containing a two-way ”Messenger Scroll” for reporting to the Elder Council, as well as seeing any outstanding missions/concerns regarding Blackfield. Anything written on the Dragonslayers scroll will appear on the matching scroll secured in the council chambers.
    • Investigate the Mist Fens, find the source of the Metal Men and the secret behind the Rider Boxes
    • Scout out the threatening forays of The Orc Tribes in the highlands to the southeast.
    • Exploration: It’s been nearly 150 years since Blackfield has updated their local maps, and even then they were spotty at best. Any information about the local features, topography, resources and threats are much welcomed.
    • Elder Wordsworth: Special request for a fresh gizzard from a red dragon. It’s needed for the ignition system of Blackfield’s flaming outer walls.
    • Spelunking deep into the new underwarrens revealed in the Dig collapse.
    • Investigation into the higher incidence of Portals appearing across the countryside not associated with a nearby portalstorm.
    • Track down the AoE (in town and out), determine if they’re a threat to the town and thwart any future plans for breaching Blackfield’s defenses.

Outstanding Issues To Resolve Before Next Session

  • Distribute loot from the Korba Pass ambush
  • Leveling up for most characters
